Feeling Good! New Product on TPT!

I have had  two weeks of physical therapy and I feel stronger each day. It is so amazing to see how much each day changes as the body heals. I'm still sore, but not so sore I need help. I thank God for everything!

Yesterday, I saw a way God showed himself to me. He never ceases to show me how blessed we are. I have to have help with keeping my house clean since the surgery and my friend had some upsetting news that kept her from coming. I understood and was thinking in my head how I could pace myself to do some things around the house. I knew I had some visitors that were going to stop by, and we all know how we like to have to house just right. So, the day the visitors were going to arrive, I am getting ready for physical therapy and I get a call, my friend said she could come to clean the house (she did not even know I had visitors coming)!!! GOD THING!!!! It really helped the day go smoother. I was able to enjoy my company and not worry about anything.

Another exciting gift: I have completed my first of a 30 week series of Spelling and Vocabulary Units that are common core aligned. YEAH!!!!  My unit will be offered in weekly lessons, at first, at a low price on Teachers Pay Teachers. I may combine 4 weeks together once they are completed. These lessons can be used with K, 1st, and 2nd. This is a one week spelling and vocabulary mini unit. The EDL Reading Core Vocabulary is composed of words introduced in the more widely used basal reading series and/or found on frequency lists. The list is arranged in alphabetical order and includes only the words introduced on the specific grade level. I took the list and put them in groups according to phonics or grammar skills. My lessons are aligned to the common core and can be adapted to other grades (K, 1, 2). I hope you enjoy. Don't forget to leave me feedback!

The zipped file contains The Unit (PDF file), PowerPoint, and Active Inspire Flipchart.

Here's a sneak peak of my unit! Click on the first picture and it will take you straight to my TPT store.

On the Road to Recovery!!! SUB BOX A HIT!

It has been almost two weeks since my surgery and my last blog. I feel like I am on house arrest. LOL Today's the day!!! I will finally get my stitches out and physical therapy will begin. I am finally able to sit long enough to write and surf other blogs I like to follow. :) The surgery was immediate relief for me. The actual surgery itself has taken longer to heal. I amazed how the body heals. One day you are hurting and before you know it the pain is almost not noticeable.

My long term sub was amazed how much I did for her. She loved the sub box, and the plans. I had everything ran for her and packed up in big envelopes, along with the plans, standard posters, essential, questions, and vocabulary for each week. I made her job somewhat easier, because I knew the hardest part would be getting to know the students and focusing on their needs. She was a gift to me because she came for 2 weeks  before my surgery to see how I did things and to get the kiddos use to her before I left. They liked her right off!! She is much younger than me, so they loved how petty she was. They thought she was a teenager, we had to convince them she IS A TEACHER! I am so happy they have her.

I miss my kiddos very much! I plan to write them a letter today so they know I am thinking about them. I believe that was the hardest part about this surgery was leaving them so long. I am trying to come up with some creative ways to keep in touch with them. Any ideas out there let me know. I am all about technology ways. My letter today will be done by making a flipchart letter and record my voice reading it. I think they will love to hear my voice. I will get to Skype them on Monday! I can't wait to see their faces. Don't you LOVE technology these days...I do!!!

Well today I will be "Buzzing" with joy because the stitches will finally be removed. That's what's buzzing in my corner...How about yours?

Getting Ready!!!

Well it's getting closer to my surgery...and planning for a long-term sub is not easy. I have been teaching for 16 years and this is the first time I have been out. I have less than two weeks to finish up all the final plans. I am just about there. Once I finish getting it all complete, I will post pictures of some ways to organize yourself for a long-term sub. I have a created a notebook that includes:

1. Daily/Weekly Schedules
2. List of Students
3. Morning Procedures
4. Monday Set up
5. Notes about my "special" kiddos
6. Behavior Management
7. Important people and where to find them
8. Map of my room and where to find things
9. Tuesday Folders
10. Gradebook

I also have a Sub-box...It includes items to have handy at your finger tips: AR rewards, AR recording sheets, behavior sheets, fluency sheets, reward cards, subject files for her to place weekly plans and practice sheets in, and a flash drive of anything she needs extra of and all the flipcharts she will use for the next six weeks. I hope this will be helpful for anyone who comes in.

If you are wondering what kind of surgery I am having...I am having back surgery. I have needed this for some time now. So, I am at peace about going through with this procedure. I am having a discectomy (I think that's the right term). I ruptured my L5 and S1 is pinched pretty bad. These next few weeks without any anti-inflammatory meds are not going to be easy, but I am asking God to help me endure the pain. He is Powerful!!!

Well...I've been busy preparing in my corner. How about yours? Till next time...

Well, I can say I had an exciting time with math this week! We have been working on measurement and my students have enjoyed measuring anything they can get their precious hands on. I have pictures to share of them using a form of non-standard measurements. They thought it was play day! :) Who says 2nd Graders can't have fun and learn too!!! Lol

I also have a flipchart introducing non-standard measurement on TPT...check it out!

Blessed!

Good morning! I am so blessed to have such a wonderful family. I am about to get ready for church. It's time to worship!!!! We are so blessed to live in a country that allows us to worship God!

I look forward to Sundays, but there is one reason I don't. I hate seeing my daughter leave for the week. I know, it's only a week! The house is just too quiet when she leaves. Peace and quiet is not always my option. At least I have a to-do list to keep me busy because I do have a lot to do today.

My goal today is to work on plans for my sick days and post a unit on TPT. I did not get to it yesterday like I wanted to.

Well not too much happening in "BB's" corner? How about yours? I would love to hear from you.

Blessed are those who serve the Lord by living in His love and believing in His Word.

Liebster

Hooray! I was nominated for a Liebster Award from Get in the Game with Mrs. Barcomb  This is for new bloggers that have less than 200 followers which I definitely qualify for!! I am excited and honored to receive this! Thanks Mrs. Barcomb!

1. You must post 11 random things about yourself.

2. Answer the questions that the nominator set for you.

3. Create 11 questions for the people you nominate.

4. Choose 11 other blogs with fewer than 200 followers to nominate and link them in your post.

5. You cannot “tag back” the other blog, but leave a comment on this post with the URL of your Liebster post so I can learn more about you & see whom you nominate.

So here are 11 random things about me:
1. I am a 2nd Grade teacher in Georgia.
2. I am a twin.
3. I am a young grandmother to a sweet granddaughter of 9 months, Camren (Cami). I love being  a grandmother.
4. I married my best friend.
5. I love to read. My favorite authors are: Karen Kingsbury, Francine Rivers, and Nicholas Sparks.
6. I love to go to the movies.
7. When I was younger, I coached a dance team for two years.
8. I have two basset hounds: Dolly Ann and Brodie
9. My Lord is my savior. I should have posted this as number one.
10. I never want to stop learning new things. Especially with education.
11. I was an Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority member in college.

Here are the questions from "Get in the Game with Mrs. Barcomb."

1. If you had lots of time and no financial worries what would you do? I would volunteer time in schools to help teachers reach those students that need one on one time. It's hard getting help these days.

2. What is the best part of teaching? I love being able to use new technology in the classroom.
3. What hobbies do you enjoy? I love taking pictures and reading.
4. Are you ready for the Holidays or a last minute shopper? I am a last minute shopper.
5. What was the best vacation/ trip you ever took? The best trip would be a cruise we took to Mexico. It was so fun and relaxing.
6. Share the funniest kid story you have since teaching. Well this story is funny but gross at the same time. I was teaching a unit on the Earthworm. When we were deep into conversation, one of my students shared..."Oh, those are the worms that come out of a cat's butt! My cat did that one time!"  I had to hold back my laughter.
7. Do you have any pets? I have two dogs. They are basset hounds, Brodie and Dolly Ann.
8. Do you have any tattoos? No
9. What kind of music do you listen to? Pretty much anything. I like contemporary Christian Music, Pop, and Country.
10. If you could invite someone to have lunch with you who would you invite? Wow, that's a hard one. I really don't know. Maybe I'll think on that one for awhile.
11.What do you watch on tv? I love Nashville and Chicago Fire.

Here are my questions for you:
1. Why did you choose teaching?
2. Matthew Mcconaughey or Channing Tatum?
3. What is your favorite time of year?
4. What is your favorite movie?
5. If you could do something very daring, what would you do?
6. Where did you go to college?
7. What is your passion?
8. If you had a choice to choose another career, what would you choose?
9. Most remembered  moment in life?
10. What's your favorite subject to teach?
11. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?

Gosh! It's been a long time since I have posted anything on my blog. This school year has been so full, with the all the changes going on with the curriculum. I hope I can do better. I plan on posting new items on TPT this weekend. I have some DGP practice  that will be posted for Promethean Users and I have put together some spelling and vocabulary units that include all the 2nd Grade EDL words. My Spelling and Vocabulary Unit will include: Spelling , vocabulary, powerpoints, and a Flipchart (promethean users), and Assessments. You will love having these units!

On a personal note, I have been dealing with some back issues this year. I will have surgery in February. I can not wait to get that behind me, so I feel more like myself. Our grandbaby, Cami, is growing so fast. She will be 9 months old really soon. Time flies when it comes to your children and grandchildren. I love being a "BB"! Our daughter is in her 2nd semester in college. She decided to transfer to Point University. She LOVES it!  Her spiritual life has grown so much this year. She has an interview with WinShape Camps this week. Please keep her in your prayers. She really  makes her dad and I really proud. Our son and daughter-n-law are doing great too! Benji got a promotion at work. We are so happy for him.

Well, that's what's happening in "BB's" Corner...What's happing in yours? Leave a comment, I love hearing from friends and new friends.
